Getting In A Pickle
The day started damp with us in the clouds, the other day Martin set about peeling a mixture of some of the Shallots and setting them in salt ready to pickle, I got them all washed off this morning
I brewed up some vinegar and pickling spices and packed the jars, I had some beetroot in the fridge that was boiled the other day so that was sliced and into jars with some pickling vinegar, I then did some pickled cucumber as we have a bit of a glut at the moment, I sliced the cucumber and layered it with some salt to draw out the water, it only takes a few hours, then a good wash is needed to remove the salt, I left to dry a bit then packed it into jars topped off with what was left of the vinegar.
This is enough pickles for us, I want to do some small jars for gifts over the next few weeks. I also want to get some pickled garlic done.
Once I was finished the sun started to make an appearance, I already have my afternoon planned in the cabin, Martin was having a burning session with some brush wood.
The young chickens that I introduced to the main hen house last night have been accepted and settled in fine, no disagreements.
Martin is back to work tomorrow, I will be back to running the ranch alone again until the week end, we have friends visiting next week end, I haven't seen them since moving so I am looking forward to there visit.
