Events Of The Past Few Days

Friday night Helen's little kid slipped away, it just wasn't meant to be, Helen was beside herself, I left the kid with her for a couple of days, she kept nudging it and bellowing, it was heartbreaking.
Saturday night I was away, I met up with Martin we were going to a party, friends came to stay on the Ranch and tend to everyone  needs, it was the first time we had both been away since moving here, we had a good night and it was great to meet up with old friends.
Sunday I returned home Martin will be back on Thursday, once friends had left it was back to normal, I moved Helen back into the goat house with the others she had covered the kid over with straw.
Monday morning I milked her off and she went out with the others.
I was pottering about the poly tunnels and heading back to the house climbed over the stile with my hands full, caught my foot between the top bars of the stile, I continued foot didn't follow
As the day wore on foot became more painful went t the doctors who told me I had torn the ligaments in my ankle and along the side of my foot.
Strapped up sent home to rest it and told to try not to walk on it for a few days, little chance of that I had animals waiting to be fed.
This morning, managed to get everyone fed, went to stop the incubator turning the eggs as they are due to hatch Thursday/Friday and found this
One of the eggs pipping, talk about being eager,
I didn't have a brooder organised that was on this week list,
using a couple of pallet collars I have put together a brood area ready.
I then pop over to do a goat check, waiting for Connie to kid
Thelma was laying with her kids in the sun, Helen was sunbathing no sign of Connie in the field, I checked the goat house empty,
Started walking down the field not easy with a dodgy foot, could here some bleating down the embankment under the trees and came across Connie
She picked the most inaccessible place for me, to have her triplets.

3 large sturdy kids, thank goodness she didn't need any help, she has now come up the field, I have got her into the kidding pen with her kids, she has had a bucket of molasses and water and now resting.
An eventful morning thank goodness kidding is now finished for this year.

Glad to read you enjoyed some time away for the ranch and that it ran well in your absence. What eggs are in, chicken or duck?

  6. Oh heck, not a good time to be injured with everything going on. Sad about the kid, but made up for by the 3 healthy ones arriving without help.
