Working Together, Birthday And Anniversary

Having Martin home more means more gets done, there is always plenty to do, no shortage of work around here.
The other day we worked together getting stuck into clearing borders in the garden
This border was waiting to be cleared I had made a start on it but work was slow, thick with weeds and lots and lots of stones
working together its now been cleared
along with this corner of the garden
and this one under the living room window, this border wont be planted up the rosebushes will be moved in autumn, this border will become part of a veranda when we do building work.
end of the day was a big bonfire and a
 camp fire dinner.
I have been getting a few new plants into the big cleared border
I am going for shrubs with textures and winter interest
and plants that will grow large to fill spaces rather than pretty flowers.
Globe Artichokes are ready for eating
the first four were studded with garlic and roasted, they were yummy. Still lots more to come.
Yesterday Tess had her 11th birthday, we know here date of birth because when she was a puppy she was micro chipped but it was never registered to an owner, how she ended up in a puppy farm as a breeder and then being rescued we will never know, if only dogs could talk the stories they could tell.
Yesterday was also the anniversary of move 3 years WOW, it sometimes feels like we have been here forever and sometimes it feels like we have just moved in I must do some photos showing the ranch has changed over 3 years.

  2. Hello Dawn, hard work halved is always wonderful! We have just thrown away an adult size plant (enormous really) of the same spiky plant in the ninth photo down form the top. I don't know the name of them but boy are they a dangerous plant. When they get bigger they develop inch long needles on the end of each strap. They then send out a huge flower spike and die off. They are probably okay for you as you have land and plenty of room, we had them growing in pots in a court yard. Not very clever but then we also didn't know what this plant would turn into either. Have a lovely day.

    1. I have grown them before, the side next to the path we used to shear off the points to avoid accidents

  4. Well knock me down with a feather - 3 years and you have achieved so much and that was even before Martin was home full time. Hats firmly off to you! I can't wait to see the photos.
Happy birthday Tess! What a lovely looking dog she is. Hoping to meet her in the not too distant future :D
I am loving the campfire tea! Is that a long way from the house? We have a fire pit area but it's in the garden and would purely be having tea there for the experience rather than proximity to the house lol. Is it the same for you?
Everything is looking great Dawn, you really are an inspiration.

  5. It must be wonderful being together at last, you achieved so much individually so you really must be a force to be reckoned with. Looking forward to seeing the photos and the building changes as they happen.

  8. It must be lovely to have company when working, you've achieved so much in 3 years but I bet if it's anything like our old place then there'll still be plenty to do in another 10 years time! The work never ends with self-sufficiency.
